Paul McKeown

Technology leader specialising in identity platforms, security architecture, platform engineering, and engineering productisation.

Over two decades of experience across banking, cloud-native platforms, enterprise software, and specialist consulting environments.

Career experience spans:

  • enterprise software engineering
  • banking platform architecture
  • microservices and Kubernetes platforms
  • identity and access management systems
  • engineering governance and delivery transformation
  • consulting capability productisation
  • presales architecture and commercial deal shaping

Background

My career began in enterprise software engineering and evolved through large-scale banking platforms, API ecosystems, cloud-native architecture, and identity systems.

That foundation matters.

It means I do not approach identity purely as an IAM specialist. I approach it as a platform architect and engineering leader who understands reliability, delivery economics, operational control, and system design at scale.

Recent work has focused on turning complex identity and security delivery into engineered, reusable systems through configuration-as-code, testing frameworks, CI/CD operating models, and delivery accelerators.

Point of View

Most organisations treat identity platforms as infrastructure.

This is a mistake.

Identity platforms are software systems and should be engineered with the same discipline as any other business-critical application.

That means:

  • configuration is version-controlled
  • behaviour is tested
  • deployments are automated
  • environments are deterministic
  • promotion is governed
  • operational signals are observable

Without this, identity platforms become fragile, expensive, and difficult to scale.

What Makes This Different

  • deep identity expertise combined with platform engineering thinking
  • experience building engineering systems, not just reviewing architecture
  • ability to bridge architecture, engineering governance, and commercial realities
  • proven track record productising consulting delivery into reusable assets
  • credibility in regulated and high-scale environments

What I Do

I advise organisations on:

  • identity platform architecture
  • engineering operating models for security systems
  • DevSecOps transformation for identity and platform teams
  • platform engineering and delivery governance
  • productisation of consulting and engineering capability
